Tucked away on the seafront on the North Devon coast, Maime's Cottage is a rare finds. Perched above the footpath to the sea, with a terrace made for watching sunsets and the sound of the waterfall your companion. Drive down a deep wooded valley, dotted with thatched and whitewashed cottages. Maime's is the last before the sea.
Maime's Cottage is full of charm. Wooden floors, oak beams, and granite fireplaces combined with vintage and contemporary touches make this eclectic home feel curated, calm and comforting. Sea views and quiet seclusion ensure it lives up to being a perfect bolthole. Maime's invites you to pick up a book, sit with the sea, wander coastal paths and embrace a slower pace. A hideaway for couples, quartet of friends or a small family. Plus we welcome one dog, so the whole gang can come along. Once discovered, this place will stay with you as a special find, before you've even turned the key.
About

This coast is a contrast of dramatic cliffs, quaint little villages and expansive stretches of sanded surf beaches. This is Perfect for the hiker, sea swimmers and surfers or if you just love a quaint seaside village. For the creators Maime's is made for a moment to yourself - draw, paint, write or just reflect a while.
On your doorstep is the southwest coastal path and down to Bucks Mills beach with remains of the lime kilns and the cutest artist retreat perched on the cliff. The beach with sand at low tide is where locals enjoy launching canoes, paddleboards, and casting their fishing lines. Whilst walkers enjoy cooling off in the waters.
Cooking and Eating
Open the door from the little porch into the contemporary fitted kitchen with all you need to cook up a feast. Electric hob and oven, dishwasher and coffee machine ensure mealtimes are no chore. Whilst you can cradle a coffee and chat at the table. The wood-burner is the place to warm your toes after a day exploring and adds atmosphere to long slow dinners.
Close by in Woolsery The collective comprises The Farmers Arms pub offering wonderful food and surroundings, an adjoining Fish and Chip shop and provisions store for picking up basics and a few treats. Head to Appledore for John's deli & cafe offering a plentiful supply of cheeses, pastries, fresh bread and goodies. There's a ceramic BBQ on the terrace if you fancied cooking al fresco.
Relaxing and exploring
The lounge full of character offers spots to curl up with a book, watch a good film or play a round of cards. The wood-burner adds warmth for chillier evenings. Wooden floors with cottage windows beams overhead and granite fireplace ensure there's no mistaking the history and quiet confidence of this place, inherited from its namesake Maime.
Sleeping and bathing
Maime's has three cottage bedrooms. The main double bedroom has sea views that will stop you in your tracks, a second double and twin room overlook the hamlet. The rooms are simply styled, with a mix of mid-century and vintage touches and gorgeous soft furnishings. All have wooden floors, built in storage, deep window sills with shutters to ensure a good nights sleep.
The newly renovated bathroom with walk-in rainfall shower, green textured tiles, and gold fittings brings a quiet luxury. Underfloor heating and beautiful lighting and delicious toiletries makes this space feel indulgent, a treat in a cottage with very rustic bones.
The terraced balcony with views.
Double doors open from the lounge to the terrace balcony overlooking the sea with views to Lundy Island and down the coast line. It is the perfect spot to watch the sun dip with soft lighting a deep stone bench to curl up. You'll find yourselves enjoying al fresco brunches, afternoon teas and secluded dinners cooked on the BBQ as the sea murmurs below.

- What facilities does the kitchen have? A contemporary fitted kitchen with electric oven, induction hob, microwave, coffee machine, dishwasher kettle and toaster, washing machine and tall fridge freezer.

Dog Friendly
- Are you dog friendly? Yes — one small/medium dog is welcome at Maime's Cottage, they have to stay downstairs and be accompanied at all times.
- Is there outside space for my dog? Yes — the terrace is secure and the footpath to the beach passes the front door.
- Are there good walks nearby? The South West Coast Path is on the doorstep, along with woodland trails through the valley.
- Is Bucks Mills beach dog friendly? Yes — the beach and surrounding countryside are wonderfully dog friendly.
- Do you charge for a dog? Yes, a charge of £25 applies to cover additional cleaning and provision of crate, beds and bowls.
Heating
- What heating does the cottage have? The cottage has radiators throughout which runs on electric managed via wifi. Underfloor electric heating is in the bathroom
- Are there real fires? Yes there are two wood-burners in the kitchen and in the lounge.
- Do you provide wood? yes we provide a basket of wood for each wood-burner for your stay along with kindling and firelighters.
Wifi
- Is there Wifi? Yes free wifi is provided.
- Is there any mobile signal? Mobile signal is poor in this area.
Lounge
- What seating is provided? The lounge has wooden floors, oak beams a three seater sofa, armchair and Chaise long.
- Is there a TV ? Yes, a satellite TV is provided for you to stream your favourite shows and films.
- Is there a fire? Yes a wood-burner is in the lounge.
- Do you provide books / games / speaker? Yes there are books and games, as well as a Roberts radio with bluetooth connection.
Outside
- Is there outside space? Yes — a private sea-facing terraced balcony with a table chairs and stone bench, lounge chair and BBQ, Cushions are provided and stored in a large wicker basket in the lounge
- Is there a BBQ? Yes a ceramic BBQ is provided and requires charcoal.

Parking & Access
- Is there parking? Yes a dedicated private parking space in the square - just as few metres from the front door. Additional cars can park on the road if space or in the village car park a 5 minute walk.
- How accessible is the cottage? The cottage is accessed via a footpath 20 metres from the parking space. There is a step between kitchen and lounge. A winding cottage stair case leads to the first floor where the bathroom and bedrooms are. The terrace leads off the lounge with no steps. The footpath to the beach is tarmac but steep. The beach is pebble with sand at low tide.

- Where is Maime's Cottage? The cottage is located on the seafront at Bucks Mills, North Devon — above the footpath down to the sea.
- How do I get there? Car is needed in this cottage. You approach from Bucks Cross, down a narrow, tree-lined lane. Follow the road down through the village where a small square has parking space.
- How long will it take? from London- between 4-5 hrs From Bristol? 2 hrs, Cardiff 2:30 hrs Birmingham: 3 hrs Manchester: 4:30 hrs
- Is there public transport? It is best to have a car here. The nearest main train station is Barnstable, then there is a bus from there to Hartland.

Eating
Bucks Mills is a hamlet The surrounding area offers a wealth of eating out options, In the village of Woolsery the collective offers a wonderful public house with restaurant - The Farmers Arms, with a fish and chip shop attached and a provisions store over the road. It is just a few minutes drive and is well worth a visit.
The Red Lion in Clovelly for harbour-side dining. Head to Appledore to The Flame Factory for pizzas steak and killer burgers Barnstaple for a broader range of independent cafés, delis and restaurants. Or the new Inba Devon is a stunning farm to fork cafe bar, well worth a visit.

Visit
The picture-perfect Clovelly village — a privately owned, car-free fishing village — is just along the coast and utterly unmissable. RHS Rosemoor for garden lovers. Hartland Abbey and its gardens. Bideford — a historic port town with independent shops and galleries. The Tarka Trail for cycling and walking along the Taw estuary. Hartland penisnula for dramatic coast line views.

Activities
Surfing at Woolacombe, one of the UK's best surf beaches.Puttsborough sands is the quieter end of the beach. There are also plenty of dog friendly beaches at Instow and Saunton sands The South West Coast Path runs right past the cottage - spectacular clifftop walking in both directions. Sea kayaking and paddle boarding, surfing lessons at Westward Ho!, coasteering and fishing are all available nearby. Cycling the Tarka Trail. is a lovely ways to spend a day, or Pony trekking on Exmoor — just over an hour away.
